Mr Garlicki will complete the term of office of the former Polish judge, Mr Jerzy Makarczyk, who resigned with effect from 30 June 2002 and whose term of office was due to expire on 31 October 2004.   Mr Garlicki was born on 23 August 1946 and was a judge of the Constitutional Court of Poland from 1993 to 2001.   The Court’s judges are generally elected for a six-year term-of-office.
