In turn, President Skouris presented the situation of the European Court of Justice.   In the subsequent working session, Judges Malenovsky (ECJ) et Zagrebelsky (ECHR) reported on recent developments in the respective case-law of the two courts, in the areas of human rights and fundamental rights, then the Advocate General Eleanor Sharpston (ECJ) spoke about “how the European Court of Justice has looked at international treaties and conventions in the area of fundamental rights” and Judge Spielmann (ECHR) gave a paper on “how European Community law is taken into consideration and promoted by the Strasbourg Court”. These presentations, to be published on the website of the European Court of Human Rights, were followed by open and constructive discussions on the case-law of the two courts and their relations.   The Presidents of the two European courts remarked upon the excellent atmosphere and interest of this working visit and agreed on the need for further and more numerous meetings of this kind in the future.     ***   Further information about the Court can be found on its Internet site ( http://www.echr.coe.int ).     The European Court of Human Rights was set up in Strasbourg by the Council of Europe Member States in 1959 to deal with alleged violations of the 1950 European Convention on Human Rights.Citations
