There was no bed or mattress in the cell but only a wooden board. 1.     The applicant's version of the subsequent events 10 .

The applicant had always had an individual bed and had been provided with the appropriate bedding (a mattress, a pillow, a blanket, two sheets and a pillowcase) and with tableware. 30 .

Then his relatives sent him a mattress, a blanket, a pillow, sheets and a pillow case. 2.     Sanitary and hygienic conditions 10.

    The applicant was provided with an individual bed and bedding, including a mattress, a pillow, a pillowslip, a cover, two bed sheets and a towel.

His mattress was dirty and torn. The food was of poor quality, often made from products which had spoiled, and was unvaried. It smelled bad. No meat, fresh fruit or vegetables were provided.

    On the morning of 15 February 2012 the applicant went to the wing for prisoners who were being transferred to fetch a mattress he had allegedly lent to another inmate.

    Rule 42 provided that all inmates, whether suspects or defendants, had to be given, among other things: a sleeping place; bedding consisting of one mattress, one pillow and one blanket; bed

The cells were well-lit, in part by natural light, clean, correctly equipped (bed, mattress, blankets, table, bench) and spacious (between 11 and 25 m²).

    There had been no bed, table or chairs in the cell, so the applicant had had to sleep and eat on a mattress.

Further, cells should be equipped with a means of rest (e.g. a fixed chair or bench), and persons obliged to stay overnight in custody should be provided with a clean mattress and blankets.

At the far right corner of the room stood an iron bed with a mattress, a sheet, a pillow and a blanket.

Beds were not allowed in the detention area; however, every detainee had at his disposal a mattress in good condition and two or three blankets which were frequently washed and replaced. 24.

Government stated that the prison service had provided him with all the facilities required for his disability, including an anti-pressure-sore cushion for the visiting room, an anti-pressure-sore mattress

    Nor did the Government deny the fact that the electric light was always kept on in the cell and that detainees were forced to sleep on wooden platforms without any bedclothes or mattress

The mattress had been of poor quality. 31.

For a bed it had a concrete block with a mattress. No blankets were provided.

    On 14 January 2006 at about 11.00 p.m., some toxic smoke (later explained by the authorities to have been caused by the burning of a mattress in the adjacent cell, see paragraphs 44 and 74
